A full denture is designed to replace teeth in a fully edentulous arch and is retained by the peripheral seal. Various tooth moulds, setups, and occlusal schemes are available at SCD.

Full Dentures can be conventional or immediate.

An immediate denture is a complete denture or partial denture inserted immediately following the removal of natural teeth. Designed to restore and replace all missing teeth, they can be made either in all acrylic or with a metal framework and acrylic.

Immediate Dentures

Advantages

Aesthetic replacement is immediate, avoiding the patient being without teeth.
Can duplicate the shape, colour and arrangement of the natural teeth while some are still present in the mouth.
Can assist musculature adaption. This includes the tongue which affects speech patterns.
Helps restore or maintain masticatory function

Disadvantages

Not always possible to envisage final tooth set-up as try-ins may not be possible.
Accurate fit may be compromised by excessive soft tissue shrinkage. A reline may be required.
Often needs to be remodelled but can act as a spare.
A final denture may be required depending upon the aesthetics and fit of the immediate denture

Conventional Dentures

Advantages

Restores function and aesthetics.
Replaces full arch.
Cost-effective

Disadvantages

May require relining over time.
Midline fracture sometimes occur.

Full Dentures

Class I

Balanced occlusion for normal arch

Class II

Severely retruded lower jaw, lower first bicuspids are omitted.

Class III

Protruded lower jaw, edge to edge anteriors and cross bite setting on posteriors.
