Superior Aesthetics

Benefits

Considerations

Benefits

  • Metal-free restoration
  • Strong core material
  • Very good aesthetics by characterisation with veneering ceramic

Considerations

  • PFZ should be avoided in bruxers or patients with parafunctional activities
  • Care with case selection for extensive implant-borne zirconia frameworks
  • Full coverage zirconia-based restorations with adequate retention do not need resin bonding. Zirconia-based crowns and bridges with good retention can be cemented with resin-modified glass ionomer. If retention is compromised, a resin cement with prior application of a separate self-etching bonding agent is suggested or silica coating eg. CoJet™ or Rocatec™
  • Ceramics employed are issued with US IdentCeram® certificates to verify the American Dental Association classification and content of the restorative materials

Porcelain-Fused-to-Zirconia (PFZ) restorations are formed by porcelain being veneered over zirconium oxide. They have become popular with both dentists and patients as they combine strength, durability and aesthetics.

WHY PFZ?

PFZ has improved aesthetics over monolithic zirconia. High-strength restorations are possible in zirconia in load-bearing areas with veneered porcelain in non-load bearing areas. Avoid use in bruxers or patients with parafunctional activities.
