Interproximal reduction (IPR) is used, to generate space in a crowded dentition where extraction would leave excess space, to recontour teeth for better shape and to reduce “black triangles” between teeth that may occur with loss of interdental papillae.
Consider the following when planning or assessing your IPR plan in the TrioClear™ iDesign:
- How much enamel is being removed?
Work within safe limits and take care to examine the tooth clinically and radiographically as local individual tooth shape and enamel thickness can vary. - Has IPR been conducted on the dentition before?
This is particularly relevant for relapse cases. Determine which surfaces have had IPR and by how much. - When the IPR is being delivered?
IPR is done at the start of treatment or as tooth movements progress and the amount of IPR and the stages when IPR is to be carried out is recorded in the “clinical reference card”. - If refinement is needed, will there be further scope to conduct IPR if space is still limited?
IPR can be done where indicated at any point during treatment and may be considered at the refinement stage if space is still required.
